Homeowners Associations Business and Campaign Signage

While an HOA may restrict signage for businesses, for sale signs, and other visible yard signs, there are federal guidelines that outline campaign signage behavior.

Following federal guidelines HOAs generally allow the following signage:

• HOAs may restrict campaign signage to one sign per issue or position,
• Each sign may not exceed 5 square feet (which is a typical yard sign measuring smaller than 2 ft by 3 ft),
• Signs need to be completely with the homeowners yard and not posted on shared or common fences,
• Signs need to not obstruct traffic views
